Chief Minister grills officials; Expert panel to probe

The Chief Minister Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ordered suspension of three Engineers of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for negligence of duty and instituted an inquiry by a five member committee of experts into the Panjagutta Flyover mishap. The suspension of B Rajaeswar, Executive Engineer, S Venkataramana, Deputy Executive Engineer and K Bhima Naik Assitant Engineer.
The experts committee will be headed by K Siva Reddy, Engineer in Chief, Roads and Buildings. Reddy has been asked to identify the causes for the collapse of the scaffolding that supported the pre-fabricated segments of the flyover and submit its report by Saturday. The other members of the Committee will be drawn each from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Osmania University, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai and the National Academy of Construction.
The Government has decided to pay ex-gratia of Rs. five lakhs to each to the families of the two persons killed in the accident and Rs.20,000 each to the nine injured all of whom were out of danger. It is reported that the Chief Minister on Monday grilled senior bureaucrats at a meeting for failing to maintain proper checks and balances of work by Gammon India which is constructing the flyover.
