Case handed over to CID
Hyderabad, September 10, 2007
Police took K Venkat, the son of K Keshava Rao into custody soon after he is discharged from a local hospital on Monday. The police took him into custody after the shooting incident that took place after 24 hours earlier which resulted in the death of Prashant Reddy, a realtor. Meanwhile, the State Government transferred the murder case to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) for further probe. Sources say that the decision to entrust the case to CID was taken in view of the biased attitude of the Hyderabad City Police that was glaringly evident in the road rage case in MLA P Janardhana Reddy's son Vishnuvardhan Reddy and the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy's relative a months ago.
The police took Venkat into custody soon after he was discharged from Apollo Hospital on Monday evening and was initially driven to an undisclosed location. According to sources, the police said that he was kept in the custody of the ACP, Banjara Hills for questioning and the case would be handed over to CID officials on Tuesday.
The Director General of Police, MA Basith confirmed that they have transferred the case to CID for further investigation. The West Zone DCP N Madhusudan Reddy said that the police are awaiting the Gun Shot Residue (GSR) report from forensic experts which will give the correct picture as to who opened the fire.
