Hyderabad, September 10, 2007

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President K Keshava Rao chose the honorable way out and announced his resignation on Monday. The party leadership, has taken a serious view of the situation after K Keshava Rao's son Venkat allegedly shot dead his business partner and realtor Prashant Reddy at his house on Sunday. Sources reveal that the AICC General Secretary and in-charge of State Party affairs, Digvijay Singh reportedly told Keshava Rao to step down on his own accord.

Keshava Rao's three-year term as State PCC President is due to end this November. After it has been indicated to him that he is a persona non-gratia, Keshava Rao left for Delhi to meet Party President Ms. Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday to hand over his resignation. Even as this drama is unfolding, the party leadership in Delhi has begun the search for a possible replacement. Names of MPs N Yellaiah, V Hanumantha Rao, Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Minister for Energy, Md.Ali Shabbir and AP Special representative in Delhi M Ravi are among those doing rounds.

At a news conference, Keshava Rao announced his resignation on a moral grounds claiming that he decided to quit in order to facilitate an impartial inquiry into the involvement of his son Venkat in the murder of Prashant Reddy. It is reported that the Chief Minister Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy has no objection for replacement of Keshava Rao however it is no secret that one of his loyalists is more likely to become the new PCC President.
