Left party leaders arrested; Police restores to lathi charge

Hyderabad, September 1, 2007

Supporters of the left parties including the CPI and CPM entered into assigned lands of Ramoji Film City and Sanghi this noon and planted the party flags. It may be recalled the Left parties have called upon occupying assigned lands held by Ramoji Rao and Sanghi Group of Industries.

As promised the Government has deployed police force to ensure that no untoward incident happens. However, with supporters coming in huge numbers the police restored to lathi charge to disperse them. Primary estimates say as many as 2000 people have come to participate. Police began to arrest the supporters and take them to station. The supporters, despite this, removed the fencings at many parts and put on red flags in the lands they occupied.

Left Party leaders BV Raghavulu, Narayana and others are arrested. Speaking to the media at the incident spot when police arrested the leaders mid-way to Sanghi lands, Narayana said the Government is doing a 'fowl play'.
