Questions what the board is doing when people are filing cases in court
Rangareddy, October 4, 2007The Andhra Pradesh High Court found fault and expressed dissatisfaction at the Pollution Control Board (PCB). The Court questioned what the board is doing when people are filing cases in the courts when the PCB is not taking action on the increasing pollution levels in the state. The court asked for a list of industries in the regions of Maulali, Nacharam and other places.
The court took a case filed on water pollution due to industrial waste in the Racheruvu region of Ranga Reddy district. The court questioned the Pollution Board Secretary Rajeswar Thiwari as to what action it has taken on the industries who are polluting water in the region. The board answered that the industries are releasing the waste into drainage during night time and that an Engineer is suspended and two employees are removed from service. The court questioned why it cannot take action on the board when it failed to control the pollution and when its lower level authorities failed in their duties.
The court directed the Rangareddy District Collector to submit a report on the industries in the region, the extent of the Racheruvu and the extent of it that is illegally occupied and other statistical information. The court will take up the case again for hearing on October 11, 2007.
