State and Central Government employees to extend support
Hyderabad, October 29, 2007
On Monday, the Struggle Committee of Central, State Government, Public Sector Employees, Teachers and Workers, a conglomeration of more than 15 employees associations extended support to the All India General Strike on Tuesday. Speaking to media on Monday, the committee chairman V Gopal Reddy said that they are completely opposed to the reforms in the pension scheme.
He charged the Centre of trying to bring in contributory pension scheme, in the place of existing pension scheme. The struggle will go on till the Centre drops the proposal to introduce the scheme, he said. There had been widespread protests, wherever the scheme was introduced. Due to public protests, the scheme has been withdrawn in Britain, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, he said.
He further said that though the matter was still pending in Parliament, five percent of funds were diverted to stock market and fund managers appointed by the Centre. In this scenario, employees are forced to agitate. Committee co-chairman N Narayana said that employees should extend full support to the general strike and participate in the public meeting near Sundaraiah Park at 12 noon.
