Senior IPS Officer, AK Mohanty who has been appointed as Director General of the newly formed Anti-terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) will have exclusive powers and will directly report to the State Government.
The outgoing DGP, MA Basith said that all range IGs, DIGs, and SPs will work in coordination with Mohanty to pass on the information about communal offenses and fundamentalist activists. He is presently holding the office of the DGP (Law and Order) will have similar powers when he takes over his new assignment as Director General, OCTOPUS.
The outgoing Director General of Police, MA Basith dismissed the report that Mohanty refused to the post of DG, OCTOPUS and would head the new organization. Meanwhile, sources said that the Counter Intelligence Cell which functions under the Intelligence Department is likely to be merged with the OCTOPUS.
