Government promises to serve notices on illegal occupants
Hyderabad, October 28, 2007
The Communist Party of India State secretary, K Narayana has called off his hunger strike on Sunday after the State Government gave an assurance that notices would be served on the people who illegally occupied the government lands at Hafeezpet on the city outskirts.
He began his indefinite fast on Friday in protest against the inaction of the government in resuming lands that had been occupied by vested interests by creating forged documents. The occupied lands were being sold to gullible poor who were later forced to vacate them. The fast was launched to unite people for launching struggles against the parallel administration that was being run by anti social elements in the area, he commented.
The Minister for Mines, Sabita Indra Reddy who inspected the lands that were allegedly occupied by others, announced that the government would take necessary steps to resume the lands and action would be taken against those who occupied the lands. Later, she called on Dr.Narayana and held discussions with him and expressed the decision and requested him to call off the fast. Narayana warned of an intensified struggle if the government fails to keep its promise.
