Residents of the nearby village vacated and moved to safer places
Hyderabad, October 28, 2007
A blast in the Gummadidala based Siris crop sciences unit ripped apart a four storeyed shed on Sunday. However, no causalities were reported. According to sources, highly inflammable Xylene, a by product of Isopropane, caught fire while the product was put to washing. The accident occurred in the morning but the flames could be brought under control only by afternoon.
Fifteen fire fighting units from various locations were pressed into service to bring the fire under control. The residents of the nearby villages vacated their houses and were moved to safer places. The industrial safety team led by Candramohan arrived at the scene and supervised the fire control operation. He said that the fire was caused by a reaction in Xylene and investigations would pin point the same.
