The Hyderabad police today arrested two persons and seized fake currency worth over Rs.36 lakhs. The arrested persons are Mohammed Shoukat Ali of Maida district in West Bengal and KV Satyanaryana Reddy of East Godavari district in the Andhra Pradesh.

Hyderabad, October 27, 2007

The Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy while reviewing the law and order situation in the State with the Home Minister, K Jana Reddy and senior police officers took note of the allegations of harassment of innocent people after the twin bomb blast that occurred on August 25 in the city.

He directed the police to set up a cell under an additional commissioner to clarify allegations regarding people being picked up for questioning or their arrest. He cautioned that stringent action would be taken against police officers who have harassed innocent Muslim youth in the name of questioning after the Mecca Masjid an August 25 bomb blasts. He expressed serious concern over the misinformation campaign in a section of press.

After the review meeting, the Home Minister, K Jana Reddy speaking to media denied police excesses and said that 28 persons were arrested and sent to remand out of 60 who were questioned. According to a statement from CMO's office, the Chief Minister regretted the misinformation campaign and untrue reports being carried with an intention to gain political mileage. He regretted that the police failed to counter the campaign and said that the public perception is mot important for the government.
