Second SRC to decide separate Telangana Statehood

Cautious response from Telangana's Congress leaders over Moily's statement

Hyderabad, October 24, 2007

The AICC general secretary, Veerappa Moily made it clear that the creation of separate Telangana was possible only through the recommendations of States Reorganization Commission. Speaking to media, Moily said on Wednesday that the Congress Government is in the process of constituting second SRC for creation of separate Telangana.

He further said that the demand for creation of separate Telangana is already mentioned in the UPA's Common Minimum programme. Keeping in view, the party's known stand is the constitution of a second SRC which is the answer to votaries of a separate State.

Meanwhile, the Congress MP Madhu Yaskhi said that the Congress should respect the sentiments of locals and announce a separate State without linking the issue to the SRC . A large number of Regional Congress Coordination Committee members submitted to Moily a copy of the resolution they adopted favoring a separate Telangana. Senior leaders from Telangana, V Hanumanta Rao, P Govardhan Reddy, P Janardhana Reddy and M Sashidhar Reddy called on Moily.
