Hyderabad, October 24, 2007

The opposition parties along with various farmer organizations on Wednesday staged rasta roko and rail rokos across the State demanding Minimum Support Price for Paddy at par with wheat caused much inconvenience to the common man.

The TDP, BJP, TRS, CPI and CPM activists raised slogan shouting and detained the Delhi bound AP Express at the Secunderabad Railway station for an hour. The Ratnachal express was detained for nearly ten minutes in Visakhapatnam. The CPM and TDP activists halted Chennai bound Pinakini Express and Thiruvanantapura bound Kerala Express for some time. They also staged rasta rokos at Nandigama and other places including Vijayawada. In Guntur, police arrested number of protesters for taking part in the agitation at Guntur, Tenali, Narasaropet, Ponnur, Chilakuluripet, Tadepalli, Vinukonjda, Tullur, Mangalagiri, Gurajala, Rajupalem. The activists stopped Guntur-Tenali passenger and blocked road traffic in Guntur.

The police arrested CPI activists in Tadepalli for detaining Yeshwantpur-Trivendrum Express and also other trains. In Karimanagar, the vehicular traffic from Karimanagar to Hyderabad has come to a standstill for newly a couple of hours as the protesters squatted on the highways. The activists also staged a dharna for half an hour at the Clock tower in Nalgonda.
