State Cabinet decides to bring pressure on Centre on MSP to paddy
Hyderabad, October 23, 2007The State Cabinet that met on Tuesday devoted a major part of its precisions time to deliberate on and debate the burning issue of Minimum Support Price to paddy and also its political fall out. After an elaborate discussions, the State Cabinet has decided that the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy should lead a delegation of Congress MPs from the State to the Prime Minister, Dr.Man Mohan Singh and also UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar on November 2 seeking better remunerative price for paddy farmers at part with wheat farmers.
The State Cabinet appears to have taken with some pinch of salt, the statement of Shard Pawar that MSP on par with wheat is not possible as only 60 percent of the paddy yields rice. Senior Minister, K Rosaiah reportedly pointed out that the statement of the Union Minister has provoked the Opposition parties to intensify their agitation and gain political mileage.
The Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy while accepting the arguments of his Cabinet colleagues, nonetheless, asked them to explain the farmers how the MSP was hiked by Rs.300 during the last three years under UPA rule. Speaking to media, the Information Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy said that the Chief Minister will take up the patter personally with the Centre and ensure remunerative price to the farmers.
