Devotees in lakhs participates in the festival
Vijayanagaram, October 23, 2007The annual Sirimanotsavam of Sri Pydithalli Ammavaru was celebrated with religious fervor on Tuesday. Thousands of devotees from various parts of the State in addition to Madhya Pradesh and Orissa have participated in the festival and have the darshan of the presiding deity of north coastal districts of the State.
The festivities began at 4.05 pm and the processional deities were taken out in a procession through the main thoroughfares amidst chanting of hymns and playing of different musical instruments. Special rituals were performed to the Sirimanu, a 55 feet tall tree on which the priest B Byragi Naidu ascended as per the tradition. The temple hereditary trustee P Ananda Gajapati Raju and his wife Sudha and MANSAS vice Chairman P Ashok Gajapatiraju had darshan of the Goddess and invoked Her blessings.
The Superintendent of Police Vikram Singh Maan and DSP KK Achari supervised the security measures and nearly 1200 police personnel were pressed into service for maintaing law and order. The entire town wore a festive look. The APSRTC operated special buses. Commissioner of Endowments, P Sundar Kuamr, Joint Commissioner S Kondala Rao and Ch Hanumantha Rao, temple Executive Officer PV Subbalakshmi, Minister for Housing Botsa Satyanaryana and other dignitaries took part in the festival.
