To be test implemented in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Cuddapah
Hyderabad, October 20, 2007
Taking a cue from the Union Government, the State Transport Department is trying to go hi-tech with the issue of E-Driving License cards starting from January 2008. This new E-Driving License cards will have a computer readable chip inside the card which looks like that of an ATM card. The card will have information about the license holder and his driving history including any license suspensions and the reasons for the same apart from information about the vehicle and its history
The second phase of this new smart card would allow financial transactions such as filling of petrol and vehicle repair information as well.
This new license would be issued for all new license requests and for renewals coming from January next year in the district of Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Cuddapah on trail basis and later to other districts in a phased manner.
