Hyderabad, October 2, 2007

The State Government on Tuesday announced that the newly established Nalgonda University will be renamed after Mahatma Gandhi. The University is set up to cater the educational needs of students from Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy after participating in an oath taking event on the International Day of Non-Violence on Tuesday.

Assembly Speaker KR Suresh Reddy, Legislative Council Chairman A Chakrapani, Chief Secretary, J Harinarayan and DGP MA Basit and the ministers took the pledge.

Earlier, the Chief Minister along with the Cabinet colleagues and MLAs offered floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Assembly premises. Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy also garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan. In-charge president of the APCC GS Rao and PCC General Secretary D Nagender were present on the occasion.
