State Government issued orders
Hyderabad, October 18, 2007
The Director General of Police (Law and Order) AK Mohanty has been appointed Chief of the Organization for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS), the newly created exclusive wing to fight terror groups operating in the State. The posting has come as a surprise, since the proposal by the State Cabinet decided to post an officer of the rank of Additional DGP to head OCTOPUS.
Incidentally, this is the first appointment to OCTOPUS. Mohanty will have to build a team of his own and give it a shape on the lines of the anti Naxalite Greyhounds. It may be noted that he was one of the few officers who finalized the structure and character of OCTOPUS.
He will continue to hold full additional charge of the law and order wing also until further orders according to reliable sources.
