Cautions not to cross Lakshman Rekaha
Hyderabad, October 15, 2007
The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy tossed the the ball into the court of TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu on the question whether a sitting or a retired judge should be appointed to inquire into the respective wealth. The Chief Minister ruled out a probe by a sitting judge citing a recent Apex Court judgment that states that no sitting judge be spared for commissions except in rarest of the rare cases involving paramount national interest and the message conveyed by the High Court regarding paucity of Judges.
At a press conference on Monday, Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ruled out a probe by a sitting judge. The Chief Minister said that it was expected that Chandrababu Naidu would gracefully accept the probe following his recent assertion at Warangal and further cautioned not to cross 'Lakshmana Rekha' or else people will loose respect for democracy. He quoted the double standards of Naidu saying that he initially expressed willingness for any kind of probe but subsequently insisted on probe by a sitting judge.
YSR termed Naidu as a 'machiavellian character' commenting the reckless allegations were devoid of truth and decided to order a probe to call the bluff of Chandrababu Naidu who incidentally amassed huge wealth. He added that whether there would be any inquiry at all, it depends on Chandrababu Naidu's response.
