State Government to stand guarantee for 600 stranded in UAE

Government to depose an amount equal to the expenditure

Hyderabad, October 15, 2007

The State Government has decided to stand guarantee for ensuring transport of 600 stranded members in UAE. The Government has resolved to seek the details of those persons from the External Affairs Ministry and to urge the Indian Embassy in the Emirates to arrange for their transport. The Government, on its part will stand guarantee for them by depositing an amount equal to the expenditure incurred for the transport with the Regional Passport Office in tune with the norms fixed by the Ministry of External Affairs.

A decision was taken at a meeting attended by the officials from the Central Government and Regional Passport Office in Hyderabad on Monday which was presided over by the Minister for Minority Welfare Mohd.Ali Shabbier.

The Minister said that the request of the 600 members who registered themselves with the embassy had been verified and it was found that they were genuinely in need of help. The State Government had also received information about 100 people from the State who approached the Indian Embassy in Iraq seeking help in returning to India and the issue was under examination, he added.
