State Government decides to order judicial inquiry into assets

YSR and Chandrababu Naidu assets to be cheked

Hyderabad, October 11, 2007

For the first time in the history of the politics of Andhra Pradesh, a judicial commission will inquire into the assets owned by the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy and the Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu. The State Government has decided to order a judicial inquiry by a retired Judge of High Court. According to available sources, the Chief Minister gave his consent to the inquiry and the terms of reference are being finalized. The State Government is likely to make an official announcement in a couple of days.

All this fuss started when Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy was amassing wealth of Rs.1 crore per hour through dubious means. Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy in response to the allegations asked if if Chandrababu Naidu agrees for an inquiry for which Mr. Naidu agreed to accept the challenge.

It may be recalled that the former Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu approached the Court of Law getting stays of probe into his assets earlier. For instance, when Lakshmi Parvati alleged that Naidu is holding disproportionate assets, he got a stay order from the court. Meanwhile the Lok Satta Party leader Jayaprakash Narayan and CPI leaders welcomed the State Government decision.
