Vijayawada, October 11, 2007

It is a solid fact that lakhs of devotees from various parts of the country visit Kanaka Durga temple atop the Indrakeeladri regularly during the Dasara Navaratri celebrations. The celebrations will begin from Friday and the presiding deity will be decorated in different alankarams during the nine day festival.

Lingambhotla Badarinadha Babu decorates Goddess Durga in different alankarams on all these nine days and has been doing it for the past three decades. He learnt the art of decoration of the deity from his father who is in the service of Goddess Durga and the family belongs to the 18th generations. He said that during the period of decorating the Goddess, one has to to observe Brahmacharaya, take food once in a day and sleep on the floor. He added that before going for decoration, he would do dyanam and then begins the work.

He further said that he would start the alankaram of the presiding deity around 11pm and complete it by 3am. He would perform abishekam with panchamrutam, suddodakam with Krishna water, apply sandal paste, swrnakavacham, silk Saree and gold ornaments. After completing the rituals, the temple doors would be opened for darsan for Dasara celebrations at 8.30am. On the remaining days, the temple would be opened right from 3am after completing alankaram
