MLCs to gets two, four and six year terms after lottery
Hyderabad, November 2, 2007It may be a thing no so commonly seen but the terms of the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) of Andhra Pradesh were determined by lottery system on Friday.
The Secretary of the Council, K Tulajanand Singh drew the lots of according to the category they fall. Earlier the names of the MLCs and terms were put in two separate containers, mixed well and then the lots are taken. Congress Party member Paladugu Venkata Rao objected to usage of paper for writing the names saying that there will be a scope of injustice and asked for the usage of plastic paper. Secretary Tulajanand Singh however said that they are following the norms as set by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The Council Chairman and the Deputy Chairman got four years term while 18 Congress MLCs got two year terms. Leader of the Oppossition Dadi Veerabhadra Rao got a six year term. Noted Congress MLCs Palavi Goverdhan Reddy, Kanimuri Bapiraju and KR Amos got two year terms. Educationalist Chukka Ramaiah got a six year term.
