Hyderabad, November 18, 2007

The officials of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday caught red handed the Excise Superintendent of Mahaboobnagar district, D Ranjit when accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakhs from a complaintant to do an official favor. The accused demanded the bribe from the complaintant for renewal of licenses for toddy shops in Mahaboobnagar district.

The ACB Director General RR Girish Kumar said that the officials on the basis of a complaint laid a trap when the accused stopped his car in which he was traveling to Hyderabad from Mahaboobnagar at Raikal village on NH 7 and accepted the bribe. A chemical test revealed positive result of the hands of the accused official and the bribe amount was recovered. It may be recalled that the accused was trapped by the ACB in 1996 while he was working as Assistant Excise Superintendent at Miryalaguda.

In another incident, Kandukur Excise Circle Inspector S Venkateswarulu was caught when accepted a bribe of Rs.75,000 from a complaintant from wine shops. The officials of ACB said that the duo were arrested and will be produced before Special Judge for ACB cases.
