The Government has rejected the recommendation of one-man committee headed by V Nagi Reddy, Secretary, Tribal Welfare for constitution of an Independent inquiry Commission to go into the alleged rape of 11 tribal women by a Greyhounds police party in Vakapalli in Visakhapatnam district.
The Home Minister, K Jana Reddy on Friday in question hour informed the Legislative Council that the Government could not agree to the independent commission as suggested by Nagi Reddy as the matter was sub-judice.
The AP High Court has directed the Government to get the allegation inquired into by an officer of the rank of Superintendent of Police who is posted at the Crime Investigation Department and accordingly, the inquiry was completed and his report submitted to the High Court. The Minister said that there cannot be an independent inquiry when the High Court seized the matter.
