State Government places 18 Panchayat Raj Staff under suspension

Charged for allegedly drawing bills for certain works without ZP approval

Hyderabad, November 14, 2007

The Minister for Panchayat Raj, JC Diwakar Reddy speaking to media on Wednesday said that the government has placed 18 Panchayat Raj staff in Karimanagar for allegedly drawing bills for certain works without seeking approval of Zilla Parishad. He said that the government has taken the decision basing on a detailed inquiry report submitted by the Joint Collector who recommended the State Government to place them under suspension. He also wrote to the CB-CID to order a probe into the scandal where they drew Rs.17 lakhs.

The minister said that the Karimanagar District Collector had written to the Chief Engineer, Panchayat Raj explaining how some engineers of the Panchayat Raj wing of Zilla Parishad in collusion with non officials took up works to the tune of Rs.37 lakhs had been completed.

The Panchayat Raj Engineer in chief verified the allegations and wrote to the State Government confirming the scandal according to the Panchayat Raj Minister. The minister felt that only a CB-CID probe would bring out the facts.
