Chief Minister directs Commissioner of Municipal Administration to rush to Peddapuram

Hyderabad, November 13, 2007

In view of the outbreak of diarrhoea and cholera in Peddapuram in East Godavari district where hundreds of people hospitalized, the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy instructed the Commissioner of Municipal Administration and other top officials to rush to Peddapuram. He directed the Health Department and other officials concerned to take steps on a war footing to prevent further spread of the disease.

The government have framed charges against the Municipal Commissioner of Peddapuram for dereliction of duties and negligence and lack of supervision in the maintenance of sanitation. Sanitary Supervisor and inspector have been placed under suspension for negligence of their duties. The Municipal Engineer A Uday Kumar and municipal assistant engineer S Satyanarayana have also been placed under suspension.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to see that safe drinking water is supplied to all the rural and urban areas and also see that epidemics do not break out. He warned that any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated according to a press release.
