BSNL launches On-Demand TV on GSM mobiles

TV entertainment on mobile at Rs. 150 per month

Hyderabad, November 13, 2007

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in collaboration with Apalya Technologies on Tuesday launched 'mobile.tv', an interactive, on-demand mobile TV entertainment through GSM mobile handsets across the State.

The software firm has already tied up with leading media companies like the NDTV, CNBC, Cartoon Networks, Times Now, Zoom, ETV, TV9, Maa TV, India TV, CNN-Mobile and Jaya TV to deliver wide range of content for the end-to-end mobile TV and video solution to BSNL's EDGE/GPRS portal customers. More channels are likely to be added in the list. The customers can watch one channel round the clock by paying Rs.10, one channel for 30 days by paying Rs.50 and all channels for one month by paying a subscription of Rs.150. The service is initially offered free for one month by which the subscribers can watch both, live TV and on-demand video.

Speaking to media on Tuesday, AP Telecom Chief General Manager S Ramalingam said that the customers can access the service by sending an SMS 'MYTV' to 55447 and download the minimobi.tv application. The facility, however, will be available on handsets of Nokia Series 60 devices, Nokia FP2, FP 3, Nokia S 60 third edition and Sony Ericsson J2ME devices. He further said that the BSNL has provided 1,00,172 broadband connections covering all district headquarters in the State by November 12 and the capacity has been augmented to 1.5 lakh ports and augmentation up to 2.2 lakh will be completed by December 15.
