Major fire accident in Bank building

Electrical transformer gets burnt due to short circuit

Kurnool, November 11, 2007

On Sunday morning, a major fire broke out when an electrical transformer got burnt due to short circuit causing huge damage to the frontage of the four storied ICICI Bank building on Kurnool road. The flames leapt to a height of 40 feet and created a scare in the area.

As Sunday happens to be a holiday, most of the shops were closed and roads were deserted in the usually crowded commercial complex area. As the Fire station is nearby, fire tenders rushed to the spot and immediately brought the flames under control averting a major mishap. The Transco has erected the transformer on a high rise platform to supply power exclusively for ICICI bank building. As the transformer failed, another one was installed only on Saturday but the new transformer was burnt on Sunday due to short circuit.

The Superintendent of Engineer, Transco, Ram Singh said that the accident could have occurred due to short circuit in the cable used by the consumer. He said that the both the transformers would be replaced to restore power to the consumer by Monday. In the accident, a motorcycle and two cycles and a generator were reduced to ashes.
