Hyderabad, November 10, 2007
Tirumala Tirupati Devastanams Chairman B Karunakar Reddy and the president of Telugu Sanskruthika Vikasa Vedika (TSVV), a forum of language enthusiast striving to promote Telugu said that unless immediate corrective measures are taken, the language will soon be gasping for its survival.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, he said that the TSVV will hold Telugu Basha Brahmotsavalu from November 22 to 30 at Tirupati to promote Telugu usage. The aim is to protect the rich treasure trove of Telugu. He added that on November 23, a chariot procession of ‘Telugu Talli’ will be taken out and a special folk art programme would be conducted and artistes from across the State would take part in it. Seminars and workshops and cultural programmes to popularize Telugu are being planned.
He expressed that there is a rapid decline in the number of Telugu speakers having academic instruction in the mother tongue and consequently, the number of those able to write in Telugu has also come down. This has led to a situation where people have begun believing that there is no future for Telugu. The Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy released a calendar on Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavalu in Hyderabad on Saturday.
