Charged for failing to take rehabilitation measures

Hyderabad, November 1, 2007

The Chairperson of Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC), B Subhashan Reddy directed the Mandal Revenue Officer of Katrenikona mandal, East Godavari to appear before the panel on November 5 in connection with a complaint that the MRO failed to take any rehabilitation measures of three Myanmar fishermen who landed on December 4, 2001 in the wake of a cyclone.

Basing on a complaint by a teacher GVNS Nehru, the Commission sought and received a report from the Superintendent of Police, East Godavari on September 19. A note from the APSHRC said that it was evident from the SP’s report that the MRO had neglected the human rights of the three fishermen.
