Delivers keynote address at the World Agricultural Forum 2007
Hyderabad, May 8, 2007The Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy called upon the developing nations to invest more in he rain fed areas as these lands comprising sixty percent of the global agricultural lands will contribute substantially to future food security.
Delivering the keynote address at the World Agricultural Forum-2007 at St Louis in the US, the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy said that more investments were needed in developing appropriate technologies and quality seed to suit the dry land agriculture. Substantial investments also have to be made in non farm sectors in dry land areas to help locals shift to new vocations such as water conservations and water use efficiency technologies which are key for developing agriculture.
He wanted special focus on livestock and fisheries sectors as they have been contributing immensely to the agricultural GDP in many countries. He said that 62 percent of the one billion Indians are directly employed in the agricultural sector.
