Warns officials to be alert
Hyderabad, May 28, 2007The Minister for Agriculture, N Raghuveera Reddy on Monday cautioned the seed companies of stringent action if they try to exploit unsuspected farmers approaching them for seeds during the ensuring kharif season.
The Minister also warned the officials to be on alert and ensure that there were no complaints on short supply of seed or their quality failing which appropriate action would be initiated against the erring officials. Speaking at a press conference, he attributed the lack of coordination among the departments concerned and haste on the pat of officials concerned that resulted in lathi charge on farmers in Adilabad on Sunday.
He directed the senior police officials to probe into the issue and action would be initiated against the erring officials. He said th the government had positioned 12.35 lakh qunitals of seed for crops like groundnut, soybean, maize and sunflower with an estimated subsidy of Rs. 162 crore.
