Minister for Revenue announces in press conference
Hyderabad, May 27, 2007Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, the Minister for Revenue, Dharmana Prasada Rao said that only 3.57 lakh acres of assigned lands were encroached. The government has enumerated about 47 lakh acres of the total 50 lakh acres earmarked land included notified land. He said that the Government has so far issued 1.69 lakh notices in respect of 2.38 lakh acres. Nearly 3,793 acres of land has been surrendered to the government by 1438 persons.
In the press conference, he said that the government will take a decision on the suggestions of the Department after going through the recommendations in detail and eliciting opinion of political parties. He said a workshop will be organized on June 12 at the AP Academy of Rural Development in the State Capital.
The minister clarified that the recent legislation on assigned land was primarily intended to resume assigned land and distribute it to the original beneficiary or use it in a way that would serve the interests of the people. Its main aim is not to prosecute anyone though penal provisions could be invoked against those who did not com forward to surrender the assigned lands.
