Recommends one acre of land for every poor person
Hyderabad, May 27, 2007Releasing the copies of the Koneru Ranga Rao Committee's recommendations on Sunday, the Minister for Revenue Dharmana Prasada Rao said that the State Government was committed to ensuring allotment of land to the poor and there was no question of going back on the land distribution issue. He said that the recommendations would be studied and a report would be submitted to the Government soon, he said.
The committee recommended that on assessment of the Government land available in the State, the State Government to ensure at least one acre of land is given to every poor person. The other recommendations included making it mandatory of the Gram Sabha to approve assignment of lands and redefining the meaning for a landless person ho should be one who owns no land or owns land not more than one acre of wet or two acres of dry land.
It also recommended that whoever obtains D Form patta irregularly should be made liable to foregos the land to the government and be made to pay double the income derived from the land from the date of possession. All lands belonging to Government within two kms from the periphery of mandal headquarters shall be entered into the Prohibitive Order Book and its assignment banned.
