One person taken into custody in Jalna in Maharashtra
Hyderabad, May 25, 2007The Hyderabad City police are no pinning their hopes of achieving a breakthrough in the Mecca Masjid blast with the arrest of one Shoaib Jagridar who was arrested in Maharashtra. The police of Maharashtra handed over him to the Special Investigation cell (SIC) on Friday morning. He is suspected to have procured the deadly RDX used in the IED blast in Mecca Masjid in the last Friday.
He was arrested in Mumbai on Thursday night by the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai and brought to the city amidst tight security. The Maharashtra police grilled him for nearly five hours, believe that Shoaib was in some way involved in the Mecca Masjid blast. Besides helping the perpetrators in procuring RDX, police believe that he might have visited the city few days ago before the blast to assist those who planted the IED in the mosque.
The Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh said that none was in their custody. He declined to divulge the details the details of probe at this stage as it could hamper the investigation. He clarified that the SIC headed by DIG (Administration) in Hyderabad Police, HK Gupta will continue to probe the case till the CBI takes over the case from the city police.
