Hyderabad, May 24, 2007

The Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy yielding to the pressure from political parties including MIM wrote to the Central Government requesting for a CBI probe into the Mecca Masjid blast that took place in the last Friday claiming 14 lives. He also ordered a judicial inquiry into the police firing that took place immediately after the blast.

The State Government had made elaborate security arrangements at the Mecca Masjid. The government took a decision to put in place permanent measures to provide safety to the Masjid and the worshipers. The measures to be taken at a cost of Rs. 30 lakhs that include six door fames with metal detectors, three dragon lights, 21 closed circuit TVs and three ladies' curtains. These decisions were taken at a meeting held by the Minister for Minority Welfare Mohd Ali Shabbir and Information Minister A Ramnarayana with the district administration. They have also taken a decision to construct a cloakroom at the entrance where devotees could leave their belongings before entering into the Masjid.

In view of Friday prayers, the minister discussed the precautionary measures to be taken . It was decided to provide meta detectors at Toli and Khairatabad Masjids through the Archeology department at Haj House and Mallepalli Masjid through Wakf Board and the Royal Masjid by the Minority Welfare department.
