All-party leaders gives assurance

Hyderabad, May 22, 2007

Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) President Manda Krisha Madiga ended his fast on Tuesday following an assurance by the panel of all party leaders. The All Party delegation was led by the Minister for Social Welfare P Subash Chandra Bose. The leaders said they would take the responsibility for bringing pressure on the Central Government for early classification of the Scheduled Caste reservations in the State. They assured that they will visit Delhi and meet the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and Usha Mehra, Chairman of the National Commission constituted by the Centre to study the SC Categorization in the State. They also promised to appoint a senior IAS officer to monitor the issue with the Centre.

Meanwhile, Krishna Madiga said that he would wait for two months and on July 21, he would organize a public meeting with five lakh Madigas in the city. He said that the Chief Minister and other leaders should present a progress report on the efforts made by them.

According to the Minister for Transport, Kanna Lakshminarayana during the six day fast of the MRPS leader, nearly 111 buses were burnt in the State causing a loss of Rs. 1.60 crore. He said that the cases are being registered in connection with the bus burning incidents. The State government has sent a draft bill to the Centre's approval on recovery of losses.
