Special Teams looking for more evidence
Hyderabad, May 19, 2007The blast in the Mecca Masjid was a terror attack planned meticulously but no concrete evidence has emerged as yet about the perpetrators through crucial information is being gathered by the police in bits and pieces to zero in on the suspects. The investigation into the blast that claimed 14 lives began with a SIM card found by the police at the site along with the unexploded device. The card (Hutch) was purchased in Kolkata, the State Police contacted their counterparts in West Bengal for help. A few hours after the blast, the officials got the SIM card deactivated. Police officials believe that that even the SIM card used in the mobile phone connected to the IED which exploded was bought at the same place.
It has been found that the last five digits of the 15 digit IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number of the SIM card are 88999. Significantally, it has now emerged that a few months ago, four Pakistani nationals infiltrated into the country from Bangladesh. They believed to be ISI agents are said to have been assigned the task of carrying out a terror attack in the State Capital.
According to police officials, the executing of blast plan would have been difficult without the help of locals. The police believe that the explosive was prepared outside the State. Even the cast iron pipes appear to have been prepared across the border and brought all the way to the State Capital. Intelligence Bureau sources are of the view that the device was similar to that used in the Samjhauta Express blasts.
