Hyderabad, May 10, 2007
The TRS MLA S. Bapu Rao representing Boath constituency in Adilabad district who went underground after a passport fraud case was registered presented himself before the city police on Thursday. He along with his advocate drove in a car to the Hyderabad Detective Department's office in the morning.
Speaking to media while walking inside, the MLA admitted that he met the alleged kingpin in the passport fraud case Rasheed but never intended to commit any malpractice. He said that this case against him is conspiracy of TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao, he alleged. He said that the police had seized the passports he was accused of securing in the names of his family members from Rasheed's house.
Meanwhile, the City Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh said the MLA had only appeared before the police since they had already served a notice on him about the passport fraud charge. He added that the department is examining him and will take a decision on arresting him if any incriminating evidence is found. A local court allowed a petition filed by the police seeking the custody of Rasheed for eight days and his associate Muzaffar Khan for two days.
