HC directs all Municipal administrations to remove encroachments

Resistance from any one invites prosecution

Hyderabad, May 1, 2007

A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice GS Singhvi an Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy on Tuesday directed all municipal authorities to remove encroachments in their respective limits with in three months. The Court further ordered that no political party or functionaries of the State should interfere in the removal of encroachments and such action would invite in prosecution. The Court also directed the Government to identify the officers who had not taken action to prevent encroachments.

The court enquired the Director of Municipal Administration, Sunil Sharma as to why notices were not served to the encroacher. The court pointed out that there were some religious structures which were put up illegally and the municipal authorities failed to remove them. They opined that by constructing such structures, the unscrupulous elements were trying to grab the land. The court was informed that nearly 1.32 crore sq. mts of open government land and 89,45,229 sq m of parks were encroached.
