May Day celebrations all over Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad, May 1, 2007The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy participating as a chief guest in the May Day celebrations organized by the Labour Department on Tuesday announced the constitution of Andhra Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board to benefit the construction workers. He said that the Board will be headed by trade union leader B. Gopal from Visakhapatnam.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the Board can get a revenue of Rs. 500 crore from one percent cess being collected on the turnover in construction activity. The amount would be spent on the welfare of the workers. A high level committee was constituted to examine the various welfare measures that are being implemented in other State.
The Chief Minister presented Sharma Shakti Awards to 24 works and Best Management Awards to 14 companies in the State. The minister for Labour G. Vinod along with Special Secretary for Labour and Employment Asha Murthy and Commissioner of Labour Satish Chandra were present among others.
