Demands pension scheme

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has given a call for a three-day strike from March 28 and the entire banking operations across the country with 65,000 branches of the Public Sector banks will come to a stand still. The UFBU organization comprising of nine unions with a membership of 8 lakh employees is demanding extension of pension scheme to the employees, compassionate appointments, recruitment of staff and opposition of outsourcing of bank functions.
According to sources, the strike will commence on March 28 and if the demands are not met, then the unions have decided to launch indefinite strike from May 3. The employees have decided to participate in a mass rally in Delhi on March 12. Centralized demonstrations will be held bank wise on March 21 and 27.
At a press conference, the Andhra Pradesh State Unit convenor K. Rama Koteswara Rao said that the unions were forced to go on strike, as the Indian Banks Association had not acceded the demand to extend pension scheme to all employees. He opposed the withdrawal of guidelines for introduction of Defined Contributory Pension Scheme.
