NMDC, VSP amongst top tax payers

The Income Tax department in Andhra Pradesh has set a record by collecting Rs. 7301 crore tax by February, which is 49 percent, more than last year's Rs. 4900 crore. It is the highest on percentage wise in the country.
He said that apart from regular sources of tax, this year Income Tax department could get Rs. 65 crores from realtors and Rs. 38 crores from civil contractors tax. Department officials conducted 78 surveys on realtors and found that they had undisclosed income of Rs. 191 crore. Similarly, the number of surveys conducted on contractors was 25 who had undisclosed income of Rs. 103 crores.
He said that the National Mineral Development Corporation stood first in payment of highest amount of tax ie., Rs. 884 crore till February this year out of its total tax commitment of Rs. 1200 payable by March. The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant stood second. The Chief Election Commissioner said that his department would launch criminal prosecution against tax defaulters for concealment of income and furnishing inaccurate detail.
