Hyderabad, March 5, 2007The Home Minister K. Jana Reddy on Monday assured to take action against those responsible who allegedly attacked a reporter and a cameraman of a private television news channel, who went to cover the Medical Council of India's inspection of MNR Medical College in Medak district.
He made a statement that he spoke to the District SP, Range DIG and IG and directed the DIG of Nizamabad to submit a report immediately after he learnt about the incident. He condemned the attack and said that the police registered cases against three officials of the College who are said to be absconding.
He announced that three teams under the supervision of the DSP had begun the search for the trio who were on the run. The Government took a serious view on the issue. He said that the State Government has decided to invoke provisions of law to confiscate the properties of MNR Medical College. However, the police took the Chief Security Officer and four others into custody and they wee being interrogated. The Minister said that when the reporter Chandrakanth and camera operator Ram Reddy went to cover the MCI inspection, they were taken to a room on the pretext that one of the directors would give an interview to them. However, they were confined in the same room till evening and released later with a warning.
