Hyderabad, March 5, 2007

The Congress high command on Monday announced the list of party candidates for the AP Legislative Council from the Assembly Constituency. The Congress President Sonia Gandhi in consultation with the AICC general secretary and State in charge of party affairs Digvijay Singh an AICC general secretary Jardhan Dwivedi cleared the list and announced the candidates.

Out of the 19 candidates announced by the Congress, 10 are from Telangana while North Coastal Andhra was totally neglected in this regard. The Congress high command finalized the list on expected lines and brought back many old faces.

The names of the candidates are M. Lakshmi Devi, P. Padmavathi, Bharti Nayak, Chegalarayudu, Tippeswamy, M. Manik Rao, Rajalingam Goud, Sultan Ahmed, P. Govardhan Reddy, K. Bapiraju, R. Padmaraju, KR Amos, S. Basavapunnaiah, P. Venkata Rao, Mohammad Jani, P. Sudhakar Reddy, S. Indrasain Reddy and K. Yadav Reddy. The PCC President K. Keshava Rao commented that the party tried to accommodate all deserving candidates but could not do so due to limited number of seats in the Council.
