Breaks 118 year old production
Khammam, March 31, 2007The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) broke the 118 year old production record by touching up a producing figure of 37.30 million tonne of coal in 2006-07. Singareni Collieries Chairperson and Managing Director S. Narasinga Rao speaking to media said that the annual turnover touched Rs. 4320 crore mark and the profit this year could around Rs. 142 crore.
He said that the production cost in underground mines had also gone up to Rs. 1820 per tonne. Of the 78,000 strong work force in the collieries, more than 60,000 were working in the underground mines. He added that the management has decided to close down five UG Coal mines in yellandu, Ramagundam and Manuguru.
He disclosed that Singareni Collieries had already entered into an MoU with National Thermal power Corporation (NTPC) on coal supply. The management has decided to set up nine new open cast projects which are expected to produce up to 16 lakh tonne of coal.
