Protests against the Government and RTC Management
Hyderabad, March 3, 2007The APSRTC Union president NA Khan and executive member V Rammohana Rao and general secretary K Padmakar said in a press release that a large number of APSRTC employees will participate in a mass hunger strike being organized on March 7 in protest against the State Government and the Management. CPI legislature party leader Ch Venkata Reddy will inaugurate the mass hunger strike.
They alleged in the release said the Government’s interference in the APSRTC administration was weakening the corporation. They had been implementing the IIM report unilaterally.
The even went to the extent of alleging that the Government was silent on the promises to provide Rs.250 crore a year to the APSRTC for a period of three years, reduction in the number of higher officials and empowering the corporation to purchase new buses due to pressure from the World Bank. They demanded the Government to arrest the plying of private buses on the routes of the APSRTC causing a loss of Rs.1000 crore to the corporation and if they fail, the union will take up by going on strike to safe guard the organization.
