APSRTC announces profits

Profit reported at Rs. 78.99 crores till February-end

Hyderabad, March 28, 2007

The state-owned road transportation arm, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has announced profits for the first time in the recent 10 years. The state road transport has reported Rs. 78.99 crores till the end of February. This was announced by the Vice Chairman and Managing Director V. Dinesh Reddy at a press conference.

The APSRTC reported in deep losses in the past few years. The corporation is at a loss of Rs. 200 crores last financial year. The reporting of profits cheers the employees of the RTC who are all these years anxious at the performance of their corporation. Optimal resource utilization and rebranding and repositioning of its services has helped the corporation to take a turn towards profits despite allocating a huge budget for increased wages apart from witnessing huge hike in machinery spares and fuel costs.

Dinesh Reddy said that a committee is being formed to examine the operations of private bus operations and action will be based on their recommendations.
