Protests against denial of ticket for Council election

Hyderabad, March 21, 2007

D. Nagender announced his decision to quit the Congress on Wednesday morning after faxing his resignation letter to the APCC president K. Keshava Rao and Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy. He said he would take political sanyas as he was vexed with the designs of the vested interests that had denied him the party ticket. It is shock to the Congress party when one of the general secretaries resigned from the party.

Nagender was a Congress MLA for two terms from Asifnagar constituency in Hyderabad before he switched over to TDP in the 2004 Assembly elections on being denied the Congress ticket. After winning the seat on TDP ticket, he resigned and contested again as Congress but was defeated in the by election.

Since then, he was hoping to secure an entry into the Council either under the MLA quota or through direct nomination by the Governor. However, the APCC did not include him in the list of probables submitted to the Congress high command.
