Officers-in-charge and Law and Order are exempted
Hyderabad, March 16, 2007The AP Legislative Council Elections to be held on March 17, the Election Commission of India has prohibited use of cell phones, cordless phones and wireless sets within 100 meters of polling stations. No person will be allowed to carry or use such instruments in the area within and around the counting centres or within the area cordoned off by the security forces. Any persons found in possession such instruments in violation of norms, the officers in charge of security will seize the instruments.
ECI has however, exempted the officers in charge of law and order and security personnel put on duty near the polling booths and counting centres from these rules. It is clarified that even the observers appointed by the Commission will not be covered under the rule.
